Thurn und Taxis

THURN UND TAXIS

Profile
"The German aristocratic dynasty Thurn un d Taxis traces its lineage to Franz von Taxis, who made his mark as postman to the Habsburgs.  After two centuries, the family received what it fervently desired, royal ranking, and thereafter married into the German nobility, which added Thurn to the name.  By the end of the nineteenth century their mail business expanded to railway building and banking, making the Thurn und Taxis family one of the wealthiest in Central Europe and among its largest landowners.  (Nowell, 2004, pp. 94-95)
